I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.(Psalm 138:2 NKJV)
The Psalmist understood the greatness of the Word of God. God is great. His Name is Great. Yet, the Pslamist discovered something very interesting. Even though God’s Name is great, He magnified His Word above His Name.
Magnify means to enlarge. When we look through a magnifying glass we see things larger than they really are. God knows that we do not always see His Word as important or relevant to our daily lives. Sometimes we see the Word of God as inconsequential to our decision-making, to our progress and to our prosperity.
God teaches us differently. In fact, God has set the example for us. God is willing to enlarge His Word and give His Word preeminence over His own Name. God wants us to do the same. It is God’s willingness to place His Word even above His own Name that prompted the Psalmist to worship and praise God. The Psalmist understood that God says what He means and means what He says.
God wants us to follow His Word at all times. In sickness, in pain, in the storm, in the wilderness, in every situation, in every environment, God wants us to magnify His Word above them all.
