16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence began on 25 November 2024. In these 16 days I would like to highlight those women who overcame great obstacles, not only for themselves, but for their families and their communities. The mental fortitude; the never say die attitude; the respect for God and neighbour, was so great in these women that they merited noteworthy mention in the Old Testament and the New Testament.
The Bible is full of records of the experiences of women and girls who activated their faith even when the odds were against them. It is interesting that the Bible does not discriminate against women of faith. If indeed, as some say, the Bible is a misogynistic book, then the experiences of those women would have been left out entirely. Fortunately for women and girls, and the entire world, the God of the Bible accepts all who come to Him in faith.
The writer of the Book of Hebrews said that because of faith “Women received their dead raised to life again…” (verse 35, King James Version). Let’s think about that for a second. When a man willing to accept the status quo a woman said “No”.
Activism is all about saying “No” when all the circumstances around us say “Yes”. Join me as I look into the experiences of those women who said “No” to death and defeat and said “Yes” to life and victory.
